Precautions for ultrasound on horses

When performing an ultrasound on a horse, the following points need to be noted:

horses

Preparation of the horse – Before performing an ultrasound, the horse’s abdomen needs to be cleaned for better visualization of internal organs and tissues.

Safety of the horse – The horse needs to be secured during the ultrasound examination. Horses should be securely tied in a safe position to prevent them from moving or being injured.

Diet of the horse – The horse should be fasted for at least 12 hours prior to the ultrasound examination. This is to avoid food and gas in the gastrointestinal tract and to allow for better visualization of internal organs and tissues.

Sedation of the horse – In some cases, it may be necessary to use a mild sedative to help the horse remain still. This allows for a more accurate and effective ultrasound examination.
